How Auctions Work on PeerMetals

PeerMetals auctions let you bid on bullion, coins, and collectibles. The highest bidder when the timer runs out wins, and the card on file is charged automatically. Here's exactly how it works.

Before You Bid

  • You need to be logged in.

  • You need a saved payment method and a shipping address on your account. If you don't have a card saved, you'll be asked to add one when you place your bid.

  • You can't bid on your own listings.

  • Every auction is for a single item. Auctions don't offer Buy Now or Make an Offer.

Placing a Bid

  1. Browse active auctions on the Auctions page. Sort by Ending Soon to find auctions about to close.

  2. Open an auction to see the Current Bid, the starting price, the total number of bids, the bid history, and the countdown timer.

  3. Click Place Bid. Enter your amount or use one of the quick-bid buttons.

  4. Review the estimated total if you win: your bid plus shipping plus the processing fee.

  5. Click Place Bid to confirm. Placing a bid means you agree to be charged automatically if you win.

Bidding Rules

  • Minimum bid: The first bid must be at least the starting price. After that, every bid must be at least $1.00 higher than the current highest bid.

  • No automatic bidding: Your bid is placed at exactly the amount you enter. PeerMetals doesn't bid for you up to a maximum, so if you're outbid, you'll need to bid again.

  • Last-minute bids extend the auction: If a bid comes in during the final 2 minutes, the timer resets to 2 minutes. This repeats as long as bids keep coming in, so everyone gets a fair chance to respond.

  • Bids are binding: You can't retract a bid once it's placed. If you made a genuine mistake, such as a typo in the amount, contact support right away.

  • Reserve prices: Some auctions have a hidden minimum price set by the seller. You won't see the amount, but the listing shows whether the reserve price is met or not met. If the reserve isn't met when the auction ends, the item doesn't sell and nobody is charged.

Staying on Top of Your Bids

  • Track every auction you've bid on from Bids & Offers.

  • If someone outbids you, you'll get a "You've been outbid!" notification on PeerMetals. Check your notifications often during an auction's final minutes.

When You Win

  1. After the auction ends, the highest bid wins and we automatically charge your saved payment method. The charge covers:

    • your winning bid;

    • shipping to your saved address, or $0 if the seller offers free shipping;

    • a processing fee of 2.9% + $0.30.

  2. If the charge goes through, your order is created automatically. You'll get a "Payment Confirmed" email, and the order appears on your Orders page. You don't need to do anything else.

  3. If the charge fails, for example because the card was declined or has expired, you'll be notified. You then have 72 hours to pay yourself:

    • Go to your Cart and find Won Auctions. A countdown shows how much time you have left.

    • Click Checkout Now, or use Proceed to Checkout from Bids & Offers.

    • You can also update your card in Payment Methods.

Once it's paid, your auction win is a regular order. The same shipping, tracking, and Buyer Protection apply as for any other order.

If You Don't Pay

Winning an auction is a commitment to buy. If payment isn't completed within 72 hours:

  • Your winning bid expires and you lose the item.

  • 500 Metal Points are deducted from your account.

  • Repeated non-payment can lead to restrictions on your account.

Tips for Bidders

  • Keep your card up to date so a win is charged without problems.

  • Set a budget and remember that the total includes shipping and the processing fee, not just your bid.

  • Stay around at the end. Late bids extend the timer, so an auction may run past its original end time.

  • Check the seller's ratings and read the item description carefully before bidding.
