Know Your Customer (KYC) Policy

1. Purpose and Scope

PeerMetals, LLC and PeerMetals.com ("PeerMetals," "we," "our," or "us") is committed to maintaining a secure and compliant marketplace for buyers and sellers of precious metals and numismatic coins. As part of our efforts to prevent fraud, money laundering, terrorist financing, and other illicit activities, we require users engaging in certain financial transactions to complete Know Your Customer (KYC) verification.

This KYC Policy outlines our requirements for user identity verification and compliance with applicable regulations. All KYC verification on PeerMetals is conducted through Stripe Identity and Stripe Connect, our third-party payment processor and compliance partner.

2. KYC Requirements

To access specific services on PeerMetals, including selling items or receiving payouts, users may be required to undergo KYC verification. The following users will be subject to KYC procedures:

  • Sellers listing items for sale
  • Users receiving payouts or withdrawals from the PeerMetals wallet system
  • Users flagged for additional verification due to compliance or risk concerns

3. Information Collected for KYC

KYC verification is performed through Stripe Identity and may require users to submit:

  • Full legal name
  • Date of birth
  • Residential address
  • Government-issued identification (e.g., driver's license, passport, or national ID)
  • Selfie verification for biometric authentication
  • Business details (if applicable) for business sellers, including EIN, business registration documents, and beneficial owner details
  • Bank account or payment details for payout verification

Stripe's automated verification process will determine the validity of submitted documents and assess risk factors in real-time.

4. Third-Party Verification via Stripe

PeerMetals does not directly collect, store, or process KYC information. Instead, we rely on Stripe Connect and Stripe Identity to handle all identity verification and compliance checks. By using PeerMetals, users agree to Stripe's Privacy Policy and Terms of Service.

Stripe's compliance procedures may include:

  • Automated document scanning and identity verification
  • Biometric verification through facial recognition
  • Sanctions list and adverse media screening
  • AML (Anti-Money Laundering) and CFT (Counter-Terrorist Financing) compliance checks

Stripe's verification decisions are final, and PeerMetals does not have direct control over approval or rejection outcomes.

5. User Obligations and Compliance

By using PeerMetals, users agree to:

  • Provide accurate, complete, and up-to-date information for KYC verification
  • Not use falsified, stolen, or fraudulent documents
  • Update their information if there are changes to their legal identity, address, or payment details
  • Comply with any additional requests for verification from Stripe or PeerMetals

Failure to comply with KYC requirements may result in account restrictions, withholding of payouts, listing removal, or account suspension.

6. Data Privacy and Security

PeerMetals does not store or process any sensitive identity documents directly. All KYC data is securely managed and processed by Stripe in accordance with GDPR, CCPA, and other applicable privacy laws.

Stripe's security measures include:

  • End-to-end encryption for identity documents
  • Secure biometric authentication
  • Compliance with PCI-DSS standards for financial data security

7. Restricted and Prohibited Users

PeerMetals prohibits the use of its platform by:

  • Individuals or entities listed on U.S. Treasury OFAC Sanctions Lists
  • Users under the age of 18
  • Users from restricted or high-risk jurisdictions as determined by Stripe's compliance policies
  • Users engaging in fraudulent, illegal, or suspicious activities

If an account is flagged, PeerMetals reserves the right to freeze transactions, suspend accounts, or report suspicious activity to regulatory authorities.

8. Dispute Resolution and Appeals

Users who believe their KYC verification was unfairly denied may appeal by contacting Stripe directly. PeerMetals does not have the ability to override Stripe's verification decisions but may assist in facilitating user inquiries.

9. Amendments to this Policy

PeerMetals reserves the right to modify this KYC Policy at any time. Users will be notified of significant changes via email or platform announcements. Continued use of PeerMetals after policy updates constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
