Description

2006 NORFED $20 General Issue Liberty Dollar #43 - Rare - 1oz .999 Silver Round

  • Sigma Tested & Ships in Capsule

The 2006 $20 Norfed in the general issue design is deceptively rare. The focus in 2006 was on the state-specific SMI series of Norfeds and so there were not many of these 2006 generic pieces sold. By 2007, the government had begun seizing pieces from the mints. The actual mintage of this particular design is not known.

From norfed.info:

The NORFED Liberty Dollar is a private currency that was produced by the National Organization for the Repeal of the Federal Reserve Act and Internal Revenue Code (NORFED), an organization that advocated for a return to a precious metal-based monetary system and opposed the scam that is fractional banking and the Federal Reserve System.

However, the U.S. Government argued that the Liberty Dollar was illegal and could lead to confusion with the official U.S. currency, potentially defrauding consumers. In 2007, the U.S. Mint issued a warning stating that the use of Liberty Dollars as circulating money was a federal crime. On November 14th, 2007 FBI and Secret Service agents simultaneously raided the NORFED office in Evansville, Indiana and Sunshine Mint in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho.

NORFED Liberty Dollars are now valuable collectibles and symbolize a movement towards alternative economic systems. They attract interest from supporters of stable currencies, collectors, libertarians, and critics of current fiat monetary systems.
