The Egyptian God Khnum

Khnum is one of the oldest deities in ancient Egyptian mythology and was closely associated with the Nile River and creation.

He was traditionally depicted with the head of a ram. According to ancient Egyptian beliefs, Khnum was a creator god who fashioned human beings from clay on a potter's wheel.

That connection is beautifully represented on this round, with Khnum shown working at his potter's wheel as he creates a human figure.

The obverse depicts Khnum in his ram-headed human form, working at a potter's wheel with a human figure. Pottery and tools surround the scene, reinforcing his role as a creator deity.

The reverse features a ram, Khnum's earthly representation, positioned in front of a pyramid and temple imagery. Egyptian hieroglyphics add additional detail to the design, while the inscription “2 OZ 999 Ag” identifies the silver content.
