1831 Capped Bust Silver Half Dime 5C - VF (Very Fine) - Great Details & Original Toning
Coin Description:
Overview
An authentic, beautifully preserved 1831 Capped Bust Half Dime (5-cent silver piece).
This early American coin features a strong strike with honest circulation wear, displaying great eye appeal and an attractive, uncleaned patina.
Obverse:
• Design: Features Liberty facing left wearing a Cloth Cap inscribed with "LIBERTY," surrounded by 13 stars with the date 1831 below.
• Condition Details: The obverse remains very sharp. The critical word "LIBERTY" is completely legible and bold across the headband. While there is wear on the high points of Liberty’s hair, the individual curls retain strong separation and form. The date "1831" is crisp and fully raised, framed by deep, natural original toning around the peripheral stars and denticles.
Reverse:
• Design: Features an American eagle with outstretched wings holding an olive branch and arrows, a shield on its breast, and the "5 C." denomination below.
• Condition Details: The reverse displays excellent, standout detail. All 13 vertical lines and horizontal bars on the shield are clearly visible and distinctly separated.
The eagle's talons, the arrows, and the leaves on the olive branch are highly defined. The denomination "5 C." and the legend "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" are fully crisp and legible.
Overall Condition & Grade:
• Estimated Grade: Very Fine (VF-25 to VF-30)
• Surface Quality: The coin exhibits an honest, attractive, circulated grey appearance with excellent remaining details. It has dark, original toning tucked into the protected areas of the design, indicating the coin has never been harshly cleaned or polished, preserving its true numismatic value.
