Description

This item is a 1912 Caballito Tribute 1 oz Colorized Copper Art Round, manufactured by the private mint Intaglio Mint.

It belongs to their "Legado Mexicano" (Mexican Legacy) series. The design pays tribute to the historic and highly celebrated 1910–1914 Mexican "Caballito" Silver Peso coin.

Design Features

  • The Obverse (Front): Features an allegory of Liberty riding a horse (caballito means "little horse" in Spanish), holding a laurel branch in one hand and the flag of Mexico high in the other. This specific version is custom-colorized, filling in the Mexican flag with its signature green, white, and red.

  • The Date: The bottom is stamped with 1912, replicating one of the original years the circulating Mexican silver coin was minted.

  • Composition: It is not official legal tender, but rather a collector's bullion art piece struck from 1 AVDP ounce of .999 fine pure copper.

The coin was specifically commissioned under the government of President Porfirio Díaz to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the start of Mexico's War of Independence.
