1906 Mexico 50 Centavos Silver Coin - Closed 9 Variety - Choice XF (Extremely Fine) - Crisp Libertad Cap
Item Description:
A beautifully preserved 1906 Mexico 50 Centavos Silver Coin. This example features the desirable and classic "Radiant Cap of Liberty" design and is the Closed 9 variety, struck at the historic Mexico City Mint.
•The coin boasts an excellent overall eye appeal with deep, attractive natural toning and a rich, honest circulated patina. This piece has an estimated grade of Extremely Fine (XF-40 to XF-45), displaying incredibly sharp details that are often worn flat on these early 20th-century Mexican issues.
Design & Detailed Layout (Estimated Grade: XF-40 to XF-45)
1. Obverse: (Front)
• Central Motif: Features the iconic Mexican National Emblem: a majestic Mexican golden eagle perched upon a prickly pear cactus, actively devouring a rattlesnake.
• Inscriptions: The bold legend "ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS" curves sharply along the upper rim.
• Condition Notes: Exceptional detail remains on the eagle’s wings, feathers, and the scales of the snake.
•Minor, even wear is confined strictly to the highest design points (the eagle's breast and cactus pads). A beautiful oak and laurel wreath cradles the bottom of the design.
2. Reverse: (Back)
• Central Motif: Features the radiant Phrygian "Cap of Liberty" (Libertad), emitting powerful, crisp sunbeams that extend beautifully all the way to the rim.
• Inscriptions: Stamped with the large denomination "50 CENTAVOS" and the crisp date "1906".
• Key Variety Identifier: This is the "Closed 9" variety, featuring the distinct, tight loop on the digit 9, indicating production at the Mexico City Mint.
• Condition Notes: This side is exceptionally crisp. The critical diagnostic word "LIBERTAD" inscribed inside the cap is 100% complete, bold, and fully readable—a hallmark supporting the estimated XF grade.
