1878 Morgan Silver Dollar 8 Tail Feathers (8TF) - Estimated Choice Very Fine (VF-35) - 1st Year Issue!
Description:
A highly collectible, first-year-of-issue 1878 Morgan Silver Dollar featuring the desirable 8 Tail Feathers (8TF) variety.
This coin was struck at the Philadelphia Mint during the initial production run before the U.S. Mint famously changed the eagle's tail to 7 feathers later that year.
It is in beautiful, problem-free circulated condition, exhibiting eye appeal consistent with an estimated Choice Very Fine (VF-35) grade.
Obverse Details: (Front)
• Design: George T. Morgan’s classic left-facing profile of Lady Liberty.
• Condition & Wear: The design elements remain sharp. The critical inscription "LIBERTY" on the coronet is 100% complete and sharply defined.
• Hair & Accents: There is light, even wear on the high points—specifically on the hair curls above Liberty's ear and temple—but the individual strands remain distinct.
The details on the cotton blossoms and wheat leaves in her hair are well-preserved.
• Field & Rim: The fields show an appealing, even gray patina with minor, scattered contact marks from light circulation. The rim is completely intact with no major dings or gouges.
Reverse Details: (Back)
• Design: An eagle holding an olive branch and three arrows, encircled by a laurel wreath.
• Variety Identifier: Features the original 8 distinct tail feathers underneath the eagle, confirming this as the scarcer, initial design type.
• Mint Mark: No mint mark below the wreath bow, indicating it was minted at the historic Philadelphia Mint.
• Condition & Wear: The internal details of the eagle's wings show excellent separation and feather lines. The breast feathers and the tops of the legs show typical flatness from circulation but retain clean contours.
The feathers on the legendary 8 tail feathers are completely visible.
