Gold is priced from the live spot price per troy ounce plus a premium — and the premium, not the spot price, is where you actually save or overpay.
A one-ounce sovereign coin carries a higher premium than a one-ounce bar of the same purity, and fractional pieces (1/10, 1/4, 1/2 oz) carry the most per ounce, because the minting cost is spread over less metal.
Listings come from collectors and independent dealers rather than one retailer's inventory, so identical items sit at different prices. Compare a few before buying, and check the seller's Metal Points — earned on delivered sales and positive reviews, and lost on bad ones.
Sellers who accept offers will negotiate, and some run auctions instead. If a piece is close to what you want to pay, sending an offer costs nothing.
Pricing, payment, shipping and disputes
Sellers set their own prices. Many price directly off the live gold spot price with a fixed premium or discount, so their listings move with the market; others set a flat price. The live spot price used across the site is shown at the top of this page.
Yes, on any listing where the seller has enabled offers. Send your offer from the listing page and the seller can accept, decline or counter. Some sellers also run auctions, where you bid instead.
