1 oz Platinum Bar Value Chart

The lowest-premium way to hold an ounce of platinum. A 1 oz bar from an accredited refiner is .9995 fine (or finer), serial-numbered and sold in an assay card that certifies weight and purity -- no face value, no design premium, and typically 2-4% less than a sovereign coin of the same weight. PAMP Suisse, Valcambi and Credit Suisse bars are the most liquid; vintage Engelhard and Johnson Matthey bars carry collector premiums.

Historical platinum spot price

1 oz Platinum Bar melt value tracks platinum spot price directly — this chart is the same live platinum price used to calculate the melt value above, so you can see the trend behind today's number.

Design

What is actually struck on each face, and who designed it.

Obverse

A minted rectangular bar with the refiner's hallmark, "PLATINUM", the weight (1 oz), the fineness (999.5) and a unique serial number, usually sealed in a tamper-evident assay card that repeats the serial. PAMP's Lady Fortuna and Valcambi's plain minted bar are the most common.

Reverse

A repeating refiner logo pattern, or plain, on most modern minted bars; older cast bars are blank.

01

Bars vs. coins

A coin carries a face value, a government guarantee and a design; a bar carries a refiner's stamp and an assay certificate. For platinum, where coin premiums run higher than for gold, the difference is worth a few percent per ounce in the bar's favour. The trade-off is recognisability: a Platinum Eagle sells anywhere, a bar sells easily only if the refiner is known.

02

Refiners that matter

PAMP Suisse (Lady Fortuna design), Valcambi, Credit Suisse and Argor-Heraeus are LBMA/LPPM Good Delivery refiners whose 1 oz bars every dealer will buy. Engelhard and Johnson Matthey stopped producing retail bars decades ago and their surviving bars trade at a collector premium above melt. Unknown or private-label bars may be perfectly fine platinum but expect a lower buy-back price.

03

What the assay card tells you

Modern minted bars ship sealed in a card that states the refiner, weight, fineness and serial number, with the same serial stamped on the bar. Keep the card: a bar out of its packaging sells at a discount, and PAMP bars can be verified against the refiner's Veriscan app. The melt value on this page assumes a full troy ounce at .9995 — exactly what the card certifies.

Common questions

About the 1 oz Platinum Bar

How much is a 1 oz Platinum Bar worth right now?

At the current platinum spot price of $1,771.80/oz, the melt value of a 1 oz Platinum Bar (1 troy oz, .9995 fine platinum (minimum for LBMA/LPPM Good Delivery refiners)) is approximately $1,771.80. This updates continuously with the spot price above — sellers on the marketplace typically price above melt value, since the premium covers minting, distribution, and dealer margin.

Why does every listing cost more than melt value?

Melt value is the raw metal content only — what you'd get scrapping the coin. The premium above it pays for minting, distribution, and dealer margin, and on this marketplace specifically, it's set by each individual seller rather than one company's price list, so it's worth comparing a few listings rather than buying the first one you see.

What moves the price of platinum?

Like any commodity, platinum trades on global supply and demand — mine output and recycling on the supply side, industrial use, jewelry, and investment buying on the demand side. Short-term moves are usually driven by macro factors: interest rates, currency strength, and how much uncertainty investors are pricing into markets generally.

Is the 1 oz Platinum Bar a good way to buy platinum?

Government-minted bullion coins like this one are legal tender, widely recognized, and easy to resell — that recognition is usually worth the modest premium over generic rounds or bars of the same weight. For buyers who want to add to a physical position gradually, one-ounce coins are also just a convenient, liquid unit size.

Why does the price on this page differ slightly from a listing's actual price?

This page shows melt value — spot price times pure metal content, recalculated on every page load. Individual seller listings add their own premium on top, and that premium (not the melt value) is what actually varies between sellers, so it's normal for listing prices below to sit above the number at the top of this page.
