The basics

Understanding the palladium price.

What moves the palladium price

Palladium is the most single-use precious metal: roughly 80% of demand is catalytic converters for petrol engines. That ties the price to global car production, to emissions standards -- tighter rules mean more metal per vehicle -- and to the pace of electric-vehicle adoption, which needs none. Substitution matters too: when palladium trades far above platinum, automakers reformulate catalysts toward platinum, and demand eventually follows.

Where supply comes from

Around 40% of mined palladium comes from Russia (mostly Norilsk) and another 35-40% from South Africa, almost all as a by-product of nickel and platinum mining. That concentration is why sanctions, export policy and South African mine disruptions produce the violent moves palladium is known for -- it spiked above $3,000 an ounce in early 2022 before giving most of it back.

How the spot price is set

Quoted per troy ounce in US dollars from the London OTC market (LBMA Palladium Price, set twice daily) and NYMEX futures. It is the thinnest of the four precious-metal markets, so bid-ask spreads and daily swings are both wider than for gold.

Spot vs. what you actually pay

The retail palladium market is small: the Canadian Palladium Maple Leaf, the American Palladium Eagle and 1 oz bars from PAMP, Credit Suisse and Valcambi cover most of it. Expect premiums of 5-15% on coins and wide buy-back spreads. Bars are the cheapest route in; check that the bar comes in its original assay card.

Questions

Palladium price FAQ.

What is the price of palladium today?

The palladium spot price is $1,167.76 per troy ounce ($37.54 per gram), recorded Sun, 04 Oct 2026 11:59:04 GMT. PeerMetals records the global spot price every 30 minutes, so the number on this page moves through the trading day.

What is the palladium spot price?

The spot price is the current market price for one troy ounce of pure palladium for immediate delivery. It is quoted in US dollars, set by trading on global markets (COMEX futures and the London OTC market for precious metals), and it is the benchmark every dealer, refiner, and marketplace seller prices from.

What is a troy ounce?

A troy ounce is 31.1035 grams -- about 10% heavier than the 28.35-gram avoirdupois ounce used for food. All precious metal prices, including the palladium price on this page, are quoted per troy ounce.

Why do palladium coins and bars cost more than spot?

The difference is the premium: minting, distribution, and the seller's margin. Premiums are lowest on large bars and generic rounds and highest on small fractional pieces and collectible coins. On PeerMetals the marketplace grid below shows each listing's asking price so you can compare it against today's spot and buy close to melt.

How often does the palladium price change?

Continuously while markets are open -- roughly Sunday 6 PM to Friday 5 PM US Eastern time, with a short daily pause. The price on this page is refreshed every 30 minutes from the recorded spot feed; the chart above shows the last 30 days of those readings.

Is the palladium price the same everywhere?

The spot price is global and quoted in USD, so yes -- what differs by location is the currency conversion, local taxes, and dealer premiums. Bullion in the US is generally exempt from sales tax in most states above a threshold, but check your state.

Can I buy palladium at the spot price?

Rarely -- spot is the wholesale benchmark, and every physical product carries some premium. You can get closest with generic bars and rounds from individual sellers who have no retail overhead, which is exactly what the PeerMetals marketplace is built for: a flat 2.75% seller fee and no listing fees keep asking prices near melt.

What drives the palladium price?

Gasoline-engine catalytic converters consume about 80% of annual supply, and most of that supply comes from just two countries (Russia and South Africa). Auto production, emissions rules, and supply disruptions move palladium more than investment demand does.
